How long should a typical home computer last that is used at home, not for any business, by one user maybe 5 to 6 hours per day, without any virus or other "computer diseases". Mine not the cheapest model...HP8670c.

What's usually the first item to go bad in one or is it usually the monitor that goes bad first? (Same model here HP Pavillion m70)

I have built umpteen computers and I cannot pinpoint one part that fails first.

Most hps have a completely integrated motherboard so if that fails you are toast.

onboard video, sound, lan, etc.

I stick with the Asus boards, Western Digital drives, AMD chips, Crucial memory and the rigs stay strong for a long long time.

sorry this post helps you little to none

Hsmoke...your post is informative.
Where can I find more info on the items you mentioned: boards, western digital drivers, AMD chips, etc. If there is even one or two sites available that you know about.
